Billy Williams
Graphic Designer, Freelance Artist Billy Williams has watched
his love for art grow from elementary school sketchings to acrylic
and water color paintings. Williams began dabbling in acrylics
in high school, where he also worked on sets for plays and teachers
often asked him to do portraits and other paintings.
At Kansas State University Williams majored
in graphic design. There he took his first water color class
and became hooked on that medium. Many of his works include
an array of faces, some are silhouettes, others have colorful
detail, and often many faces are morphed together to create
the appearance of one. For a soft appeal, Williams prefers water
colors to other mediums because it gives the warm tones often
seen in his paintings.
Besides using water colors, in school
he became a graphic artist, using programs including PhotoShop,
Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXpress and Dreamweaver. Creating art
on computers proved to be one his many talents and led to a
job as an art administrator for a marketing company that serves
businesses across the nation.
Currently residing in St. Louis, Williams continues to freelance.
When it’s not water colors, it’s acrylics, which
he uses for pieces with brighter, sharper colors. Williams prefers
acrylics to oil because when he is inspired, he doesn’t
want to wait for the piece to dry. He wants to create on his
own time – not the medium’s.
Music, specifically hip hop, inspires Williams. The smooth,
soulful sounds create an energy that he transfers to his art.
The moods of the music are mirrored in the expressions of his
characters, from love to hate, to hurt and happiness.
